The Historical Society has published a series of Historical Papers related to the history of Santuit and Cotuit. These papers were written over a period of more than 50 years by illustrious members of the Village. Topics range from the early purchase of land from Wampanoags to recent businesses – cranberries, oysters, salt, rum running, pearls, whaling, inns and stores. Other papers discuss local personalities – Nickersons, Chatfields, Colemans, Lowells, Giffords, Dottridges, Ida Anderson, Milton Crocker and the Portuguese. Included are stories about Cotuit and Santuit churches, schools, fire district, Freedom Hall, the Kettleers and the Cotuit Skiff. Within the last two years four more papers have been written, Colonial Cotuit, Downtown Cotuit, Cordwood and Camp Candoit. Researchers seeking information may contact the Society's Archivist, Kenneth Molloy at 508-428-3815 to make an appointment. Click here to view a complete list of available papers.
Individual copies of these papers are available in the gift shop, and a complete compilation will be published and sold sometime in the near future. You may also request copies by mail by sending a check in the amount of $4.50 which includes postage and handling (US only) to:
