Help Us Continue to Preserve Cotuit Heritage
The Historical Society of Santuit & Cotuit is committed to preserving the history, culture and character that have made Cotuit such a special place. Our focus is on maintaining the museums, curating the exhibits, sponsoring events and developing programs that tell the story of Cotuit through its history of sea captains, skiff races and nautical heritage..

2022 Annual Appeal
It takes a village to build its heritage. It takes a village to preserve it.
Help us continue to tell Cotuit's story.
With future renovations being planned for our Cotuit Museum, we are re-evaluating and reimagining our permanent museum exhibits. We have beautiful displays on the village’s 19th-century industries (such as cranberry farming and whaling), but we’d like to plug a number of gaps in our telling of Cotuit’s story. This would include introducing fresh exhibits on (1) the village’s founding and settlement and (2) the Cotuit Skiff and Cotuit Mosquito Yacht Club. Other objects in our collection will benefit from updated interpretive panels. We also want to incorporate more stories about such significant Cotuit personages as mill owner Josiah Sampson, librarian Lucy Gibbons Morse and Congressman Charles L. Gifford.
One of our short-term goals is to have a new, interactive exhibit on the Cotuit Historic District. This will make information on more than 130 homes constructed before 1900 readily available to museum visitors as well as online. Related to this, we envision a user-friendly digital experience to engage visitors as they explore past post offices and schools; the characteristics of the village’s most prevalent architectural styles; and the whereabouts of all our lovely “Mansard Ladies.”
Your 2022 Annual Appeal donation will be earmarked for the purpose of upgrading our permanent exhibitions, with the clear intention you’ll see exciting evidence of our progress when you visit next year! We suspect Cotuit is one of the “firsts” in your heart. Thank you so much for considering a gift that will help us make the “most” of its intriguing history.
