2022 Tour Schedule

General Information: 

What to Bring: Bring a camera and perhaps a bottle of water, if desired.

What to Wear: Casual attire with comfortable shoes!

Admission:  Sign ups required.  Please call 508-428-0461:  Donations accepted: Members $5, Nonmembers $8.

Walking Tour: Flower Moon: FULL!
Call 508-428-0461 to be put on a waitlist. 


Sunday, May 15: 10 AM, tour lasts approximately one hour. This historic walking tour through a wooded trail is considered moderate difficulty. Hiking shoes recommended. 

​Details: 

Take a walk with Wampanoag-Nipmuc Marcus Hendricks on the ancient Santuit Trail. He will discuss the Woodland Period through 200 years after the Contact Period; including indigenous food sovereignty and the day-to-day way of life for local indigenous peoples. 


Learn about the history of Santuit before settlers arrived!  Find out the significance of the Flower Moon to Cotuit and Santuit’s Indigenous Peoples.  Discover how the fresh water springs in the river influenced life in the area and how the Indigenous People flowed and moved with the land and seasons. Explore the native habitat of many important flora and fauna like coastal birds and white cedar trees. This tour will last approximately one hour and is of moderate difficulty,. The trail  goes through slightly uneven wooded terrain. Please wear sturdy hiking boots or sneakers and bring a water bottle and jacket.

Walking Tour: Old Cotuitport 
Saturday, May 28: 10 AM, tour lasts approximately one hour 

THE WALK IS STILL ON FOR SATURDAY! SEE ALL REGISTRANTS AT 10 AM AT LOWELL PARK. 

Details: This tour will cover dozens of historic sites in the one and a half block area around Lowell Park that was originally known as Cotuitport. Learn about some favorite places, people, and houses that date back as far as 1783.

Walking Tour: Cotuit High Ground
Sunday, June 12: 10 AM, tour lasts approximately one hour 

Details: 
This easy one-mile tour, will  feature anecdotes concerning some 40 structures on Main Street and Ocean View Avenue. Almost entirely residential now, the area was once Cotuit’s central business district. This section of Cotuit is also known for having an exceptional number of homes with Mansard roofs.

Meeting Place: Historical Society of Santuit & Cotuit, 1184 Main Street, Cotuit. Meet outside the Samuel B. Dottridge Homestead.

Walking Tour : Historic Main Street Cotuit Center 
Sunday, July 10: 10 AM 
Sunday, September 11: 10 AM 

*In the event of rain, the walks will be cancelled. 


Details: 
Local historian Tommy Burgess will lead an easy one-mile walking tour
of Cotuit Center, where almost every structure has a fascinating story!
The tour covers some 40 locations on Main Street and Ocean View Avenue.
Bring a camera and some water, if you like. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes!
